ADC Lawmakers Reject Judicial Interference in Party Affairs

Lawmakers from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have expressed strong opposition to what they perceive as judicial interference in the party's internal affairs. During a press briefing at the National Assembly complex in Abuja on Monday, the caucus spokesperson, Afam Ogen, stated that recent court pronouncements regarding internal party matters contravene existing laws and undermine democratic principles.

The lawmakers emphasized that issues related to party congress leadership are exclusive to the internal affairs of the political party and should not be subjected to judicial intervention, citing provisions of the Electoral Act of 2026. They accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of complicity in recognizing an illegitimate faction instead of the leadership led by David Mark.

The ADC lawmakers warned that such actions could jeopardize the party's future electoral participation and weaken opposition politics in the country. They also called on Nigerian civil society organizations and the media to remain vigilant and stressed the importance of the judiciary and INEC operating within the bounds of the law to maintain public confidence in the democratic process.
