Ajulo Defends INEC Chairman Amid ADC Power Struggle

Joash Ojo Amupitan, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), amidst a growing power struggle within the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Ajulo dismissed calls for Amupitan's removal as reckless and anti-democratic, warning that such actions threaten Nigeria's constitutional order and democratic stability.

He highlighted INEC's insistence on recognizing the party leadership based on a valid court judgment delivered on March 12, 2026, which dismissed an appeal from a faction led by David Mark. Ajulo stressed that INEC's position is firmly rooted in law and not politics, and he condemned attempts by the aggrieved faction to bypass established legal procedures.

He urged the INEC chairman to remain steadfast in upholding the law despite political pressures, asserting that the future of Nigeria's democracy depends on respecting judicial authority and the rule of law.
