ADC Alerts on PVC-Buying Scheme in Northern Nigeria

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed alarm over reports of individuals in North Nigeria being paid to surrender their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections. Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, stated that this operation appears to be aimed at preventing targeted voters from participating in the elections and constitutes organized voter suppression.

Abdullahi reported that the party has received multiple accounts of poor citizens being offered money for their PVCs, allegedly by individuals acting on behalf of the ruling party. He emphasized that a PVC cannot be used by another person due to biometric verification requirements on election day, suggesting that the true intent is to disenfranchise these citizens.

The ADC has called for an immediate investigation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies, urging them to prosecute anyone involved in buying or unlawfully retaining voter cards. Citizens are advised to reject such offers and report any incidents.
