Deji Adeyanju Urges INEC to Enforce Supreme Court Ruling

Human rights lawyer and political commentator Deji Adeyanju has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to comply with a recent Supreme Court judgment regarding the Electoral Act. The seven-member Supreme Court panel unanimously restored Sections 77(5), 77(7), and 84(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, which had been invalidated by the Court of Appeal.

Adeyanju emphasized that INEC is constitutionally obligated to enforce this decision under Section 287(1) of the 1999 Constitution, which mandates all authorities to give effect to Supreme Court decisions. He called for the immediate removal of the names of candidates affected by the judgment from INEC’s official portal and urged the commission to take necessary administrative actions to fully comply with the ruling.

Adeyanju stressed that INEC must act without delay to ensure its official records reflect the Supreme Court's decision.
