Osimhen Named in Nigeria's Squad for AFCON Qualifiers

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, who has been sidelined for two weeks due to injury, has been named in Nigeria's Super Eagles squad for the upcoming international window. Alongside him, Saudi-based forward George Ilenikhena has received his first call-up to the national team for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has prepared two separate squads for this window, which includes a friendly match against Russia in Novgorod. Nigeria's qualifying campaign will kick off against Madagascar in Uyo on September 25, followed by a match against Guinea-Bissau on September 29.

The squad features notable players such as captain Wilfred Ndidi, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, and forwards Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze. Additionally, Ilenikhena, Moses Usor, and Portugal-based defender Isaac James are among those receiving their first call-ups, with Ilenikhena having previously played for France at the youth level.
