Obi: Africa Can Overcome Poverty with Strong Leadership

Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State and current presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), asserted that Africa should not be impoverished given its abundant natural and human resources. Speaking at an international dialogue on policy growth in Africa held in Cape Town, Obi emphasized that Africa possesses 60% of the world's uncultivated arable land and has the youngest population globally, which should be leveraged for sustainable economic growth.

However, he pointed out that ineffective leadership, corruption, and fragile institutions are major obstacles to development. Obi urged African leaders to focus on productive economic development rather than being distracted by endless political cycles.

He called for significant investments in human development, particularly in education and healthcare, to combat poverty. Additionally, he highlighted the challenges faced by small and medium enterprises due to inconsistent policies and poor infrastructure.

Obi stressed the need for empathetic leadership committed to prioritizing productive economic development.
