African Leaders and Partners Unite to End Malaria at Abuja Summit

African leaders and partners, led by prominent figures like Aliko Dangote and representatives from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, gathered in Abuja, Nigeria, to support homegrown strategies to end malaria. Dangote emphasized the economic and public health impact of malaria, urging greater private sector involvement and sustained domestic funding.

The summit highlighted the need for increased investments, local ownership, and collaborative approaches to tackle malaria effectively. Nigeria's efforts were commended, with a significant investment of $2 billion already made to combat the disease, along with an additional $500 million earmarked for 2024-2026.

The Global Fund, represented by Cameroon's delegation, pledged support for Nigeria's malaria response, emphasizing the importance of sustained financing and innovative solutions to enhance surveillance and control measures.
