University of Lagos Hosts Africa's First OpenAI Academy to Boost AI Innovation

The University of Lagos in Nigeria has become the home to Africa's inaugural OpenAI Academy, as announced by Emmanuel Lubanzadio, a key figure at OpenAI. The academy, set to commence operations through a partnership with the University of Lagos, will provide free courses to support startups and governments in deploying AI effectively across sectors like academia, healthcare, and agriculture.

The initiative, backed by OpenAI's significant investment, aims to empower individuals and leaders in Nigeria and Africa to leverage AI solutions for critical problem-solving. Yvonne Ik, the Managing Director and Head of Sub-Saharan Africa at RSA Bank of America Africa, highlighted the importance of technological innovation in reshaping the future of Africa.
