AfDB Targets $121 Billion for Africa's Green Economy

The African Development Bank (AfDB) is actively pursuing green industrialization in Africa, recognizing the critical need for climate finance. Since 2012, the AfDB has disbursed approximately $121 billion to support climate policy initiatives.
Despite Africa receiving only 23% of the climate investment it requires, the continent faces a 77% deficit. The AfDB aims to overcome perceived high-risk barriers that limit private capital investment by creating a conducive environment through tax incentives and streamlined business registration.
The bank plans to host Africa's first private capital mobilization day in December 2025, targeting to raise $11 billion for the African Development Fund. Additionally, the AfDB is establishing a private sector innovation lab to address the $402 billion annual development finance gap.
The bank emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive policy framework to ensure that private sector investors are prepared to invest in the green economy.
