Dangote Launches $660M Ethiopia-Djibouti Pipeline Project

Aliko Dangote is advancing his investment in East Africa with a new $660 million petroleum infrastructure project that will connect Ethiopia and Djibouti. The project, which involves the Dangote Group and Ethiopian Investment Holdings, includes a 120-kilometre pipeline designed to transport refined petroleum products from Damerjog in Djibouti to Dewele in Ethiopia.

The pipeline is expected to become operational within 18 months and will feature storage facilities with a combined capacity of approximately 1.175 million cubic metres. Damerjog will host storage facilities capable of holding about 375,000 cubic metres, while Dewele will have approximately 800,000 cubic metres of storage capacity.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated that the project aims to reduce transportation costs and delays along the Ethiopia-Djibouti trade corridor, improve fuel supply reliability, and strengthen security. The announcement was made during a visit to Djibouti alongside Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh and Dangote.
