AFYD Educates Abuja IDPs on Menstrual Hygiene Needs
The Al-Mustapha Foundation for Youth Development (AFYD) and its partners conducted an outreach at Wassa IDP Camp Clinic in Abuja, reaching 150 children to provide menstrual hygiene supplies and education on October 11, 2026, in observance of the International Day of the Girl Child. The initiative targeted 100 girls and 50 boys, with the girls receiving sanitary pads intended to last six months.
AFYD Founder and Executive Director, Al-Mustapha A. Mustapha, emphasized the importance of helping girls manage menstruation with dignity and addressing the stigma associated with it. He stated that boys should also be included in menstrual health education to foster understanding and support for girls.
The outreach included information on menstruation, personal hygiene, puberty, and body changes. Mustapha urged government, corporate organizations, and individuals to support ongoing interventions for vulnerable children beyond commemorative events.
The outreach was organized in collaboration with Light for Less Privileged Foundation, Mento Missy Initiative, Pent Foundation, and Her Health Initiative.
