Nigeria's Agric Ministry Distributes 1.9M Fertilizer Bags

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture, led by Minister Stella Oduem and supported by Abubakar Kyari, has set a target to increase local food production and improve food security in Nigeria. Over the past two years, the ministry has distributed 1.9 million bags of fertilizers to nearly one million farmers.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to achieve food sovereignty and reduce reliance on food imports. Key achievements highlighted by Kyari include the promotion of sustainable soil management through the distribution of 12,000 liters of organic fertilizer and the training of 109 fertilizer inspectors.

The ministry has also focused on enhancing regulatory frameworks and partnerships with countries like Russia, Turkey, India, and Canada for technology transfer in fertilizer production. Additionally, 3,500 farmers have been trained in organic fertilizer and soil management practices.

The ministry aims to bolster agricultural value chains, particularly in crops such as rice, maize, and cassava, to create opportunities for millions of smallholder farmers and improve overall food security in Nigeria.
