Cortex Hub Launches MCP Hackathon to Embed African Culture in AI

Cortex Hub has launched the Model Context Protocol (MCP) Hackathon in Africa 2025, focusing on embedding African language and culture in Artificial Intelligence (AI) development. The initiative aims to ensure Africa plays a leading role in shaping AI infrastructure and contributes to the development of African languages and legal systems.

Participants in the hackathon will work on safeguarding digital sovereignty and reducing dependence on closed technologies. The event offers a total prize pool, with winners gaining visibility at AfricaCom, a prominent technology event.

Andile Ngcaba, the Patron of Cortex Hub, views the MCP Hackathon as an opportunity to set standards for AI governance and coding with an African context, while Ahmed Mohamed, CEO of Datacentrix, highlights the sponsorship's commitment to fostering innovation in AI development.
