Air Peace Chairman Critiques Aviation Revenue Policies

On September 10, 2026, Allen Onyema, Chairman of Air Peace, addressed the 30th Annual Conference of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) in Lagos, expressing concerns over Nigeria's aviation infrastructure. He warned that the ongoing deduction of 50% of revenues from aviation regulatory agencies by the Federal Government is detrimental, leading to costly bird strikes and operational hazards.

Onyema cited a recent bird strike in Abuja that resulted in a repair bill of $1.85 million from foreign original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). He emphasized that airport managers lack the funds to invest in modern bird deterrence equipment or maintain runways, which ultimately affects airline operations.

Onyema called for the Federal Government to exempt agencies like the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) from revenue remittances, advocating for the retention of funds within the aviation sector to prevent infrastructural decay and support industry development.
