Nigerian Air Traffic Controllers Demand Urgent Reforms

Air Traffic Controllers in Nigeria are facing significant challenges due to obsolete equipment and declining morale, which pose serious threats to aviation safety. During a joint workshop in Lagos organized by the National Air Traffic Control Association (NATCA) and the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers' Associations (IFATCA), NATCA President Mr.

Amo Edino raised alarms about the deteriorating work environment that has left personnel at a breaking point. He emphasized that the current situation is exacerbated by overwhelming workloads and cautioned that system failures are not merely administrative concerns but active threats to aviation safety.

The workshop aimed to collect voices demanding long-overdue government reforms beyond technical upgrades. Mr.

Ahmad Abba, IFATCA Executive Vice President for Africa and the Middle East, noted that the aviation industry is the backbone of aviation safety and that the growing global air traffic demand requires improved communication and regulation among staff to avoid friction.
