Airline Operators Suspend Flight Shutdown Amid Crisis

The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) announced a temporary suspension of their planned flight shutdown, which was initially set to address the escalating prices of jet A1 fuel. This decision was made following an intervention by the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, during an emergency meeting of the AON's executive council and board of trustees held on Friday evening.

The AON stated that the suspension would allow for dialogue and the possibility of a resolution to the ongoing crisis. AON has scheduled a meeting for Wednesday, April 22, 2026, to provide stakeholders with an opportunity to engage constructively in finding a mutually beneficial solution.

However, the AON emphasized that the suspension of industrial action is conditional and raised concerns about the increasing demand for upfront payments for services, describing this trend as unsustainable and already straining airline operators.
