Ondo Governor Hails Death Sentences for Owo Attackers

Ondo State Governor Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa praised the judiciary for its decision to impose the death penalty on four suspects convicted for the June 5, 2022, terrorist attack at St.

Francis Catholic Church in Owo. This attack tragically claimed the lives of 41 worshippers and left many others injured.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ebenez Adeniyan, Aiyedatiwa described the court's verdict as a significant victory for justice and the rule of law.

He emphasized the government's commitment to thoroughly investigating and prosecuting acts of terrorism and violence against its people. Oba Ajibade Ogunoy also expressed satisfaction with the judgment, urging security agencies to continue pursuing further arrests related to the massacre.

Aiyedatiwa acknowledged the resilience of the Catholic community in Owo and thanked the federal government, particularly the DSS, for their diligent efforts in prosecuting the accused. He noted that the judgment sends a clear message that those who take innocent lives will face the full weight of the law.
