Akinyemi Urges Emergency Security Measures Amid Nationwide Killings and Abductions

Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, Chairman of the Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), has urged President Bola Tinubu to declare a nationwide state of emergency in Nigeria in response to the increasing incidents of killings and abductions.

Akinyemi highlighted recent cases, including the abduction of 300 schoolchildren in Niger and the killing of Brig. Gen.

Musa Uba, emphasizing the urgent need for drastic security measures. He proposed temporary suspension of certain provisions of the Armed Forces Act 2004 to strengthen national defense and enhance security operations.

Akinyemi also recommended the suspension of constitutional immunity for state governors aiding terrorist activities.
