Akpabio Defends INEC Chairman Over Past Social Media Posts

On Tuesday, Godswill Akpabio, responding to concerns about alleged past social media posts attributed to Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stated that every citizen is entitled to their political preferences. Akpabio made these remarks during an address at the Nigerian Revenue Service (NRS) headquarters in Abuja.

He emphasized that the controversial statements made by Amupitan should not be misinterpreted as partisan, noting that they were expressed when Amupitan was not occupying a public office. Akpabio cautioned that individuals in sensitive public positions should remain neutral and act in the interest of the Nigerian populace.

Amid calls for Amupitan's resignation due to these alleged past partisan expressions, Akpabio insisted that such statements do not indicate support for any political party, reinforcing the need for impartiality in public office.
