Akpabio: 2027 Election Campaigns Won't Disrupt Legislation

Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, assured Nigerians that the upcoming 2027 election campaigns will not interfere with the legislative activities of the National Assembly. Speaking to journalists at the Presidential Wing of the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Akpabio stated that lawmakers are elected for four-year terms and are expected to fulfill their constitutional duties throughout this period.

He emphasized that electioneering and legislative responsibilities are separate and can be effectively balanced. Akpabio noted that political campaigns could be scheduled around parliamentary business hours, allowing lawmakers to engage in both activities without compromising their responsibilities.

He also mentioned that members of the National Assembly belong to different political parties, which means not all will campaign simultaneously. Akpabio's comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with endorsements for his and other APC members' bids for re-election.
