Alhassan Yusuf Named in MLS Team of the Week

Alhassan Yusuf, a 25-year-old Nigerian international, was recognized in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Team of the Week after scoring the winning goal in New England Revolution's 1-0 victory against D.C. United at Gillett Stadium.

This goal marks Yusuf's promising start to the season, contributing to his tally of two goals and six league appearances last season, along with two assists. Head coach Marko Mitrović has given Yusuf an advanced role, allowing him to become increasingly influential in the club's attack, which currently sits eighth in the Eastern Conference with nine points from six matches.

The team is set to face Columbus in the U.S. Open Cup clash on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, former Nigerian international Eric Ekpo called on Super Eagles head coach Eric Chell to include players from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) in the squad for the 2026 Unity Cup, where Nigeria will defend its title in a four-nation tournament scheduled for May 26-30 in London.
