Tijjaniya Calls for Prayers Over Sheikh Khalifa's Case

The Tijjaniya Sufi order, led by Sheikh Ibrahim Shehu Maihula, has urged its followers to engage in steadfast prayers concerning the case of Sheikh Abdulkadir Sani Khalifa Zaria, who was arrested nearly five months ago. He was arraigned on April 21, 2026, in Abuja on 13 counts related to an alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu's administration, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Federal High Court, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, ordered his immediate unconditional release, citing violations of his fundamental human rights, including unlawful detention and restrictions on his bank account without a court order. The court awarded N6 million in damages and directed the Department of State Services (DSS) to release him forthwith.

Sheikh Khalifa's detention had raised concerns about his health and access to legal representation, leading to a lawsuit filed by his legal team against the EFCC and Jaiz Bank for the unlawful actions taken against him.
