Governor Otti Files N5bn Defamation Suit Against Aguoru

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has initiated a defamation lawsuit against Uche Aguoru, the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Abia State, seeking N5 billion in damages. The case, filed in the High Court of Abia State, Umuahia Judicial Division, is registered as suit No.

HU/126/2026, with Otti as the claimant and Aguoru as the defendant. The lawsuit stems from allegations made by Aguoru on social media, accusing Governor Otti of corruption, diversion of public funds, abuse of office, political inducement, interference in another political party's affairs, and judicial intimidation.

Otti, represented by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Kenneth Ahia, asserts that these allegations are false, malicious, and defamatory. He is requesting the court to declare the publications defamatory, compel Aguoru to retract the statements and issue an unreserved apology, and restrain him from making similar future publications.

Aguoru has confirmed the lawsuit and stated that his legal team has responded, claiming the suit is an attempt to silence opposing voices ahead of the upcoming elections.
