Amadi and Itodo Push to Amend Electoral Act 2026

Amadi and Itodo, members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), have called for an urgent amendment to the Electoral Act of 2026 to remove a clause that allows for manual transmission of election results in the event that electronic transmission fails. Amadi made this appeal during a town hall meeting in Sundai, describing the clause as a significant setback to electoral transparency.

He argued that this provision could create loopholes in the electoral process, warning that it might lead to confusion among poll officials who may decline to upload results due to poor network availability. Amadi emphasized that the clause undermines the original objectives of the 2022 Electoral Act, which aimed to enhance transparency and reduce human interference in the electoral process.

Itodo, as the Executive Director of Yiaga Africa, supported the recommendation for lawmakers to amend the process and expunge the content of this clause.
