Nigerian Banks Incur High Expenses, AMCON and NDIC Collect N839.9bn

Nigerian banks faced escalating operational expenses, leading to AMCON and NDIC receiving N839.9 billion from seven prominent banks in the country during the first nine months of 2025. The expenses represented a 38.4% increase from the previous year.

AMCON imposed levies totaling N605.06 billion, a 41.8% rise from 2024, while deposit insurance premiums reached N180.99 billion, a 30.3% increase. The banking sector's resolution costs are essential for protecting public funds in case of bank failures, with NDIC ensuring deposit guarantees up to N5 million.
