INEC Chairman Amupitan Affirms Neutrality for 2027 Elections

Prof. Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stated that the commission has no preferred candidate or political party for the upcoming 2027 elections. This declaration was made during a visit to the Emir of Zazzau, Amb.

Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, as part of INEC's stakeholder engagement ahead of the elections. Amupitan highlighted the significance of traditional institutions in the electoral process and stressed the importance of public trust for democracy's success.

He mentioned that INEC is starting preparations early due to the complexity of conducting elections in Nigeria, moving away from last-minute preparations. He urged the Emir to counsel political parties against violence and to encourage youth to refrain from political violence.

Amupitan also called on eligible voters to actively participate in the electoral process, including collecting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The Emir commended the INEC delegation for the engagement and emphasized the need for timely delivery of election materials and security measures.
