AMVCA and Johnnie Walker Empower Young Filmmakers

The Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA) and Johnnie Walker organized the Young Filmmakers Day (YFD) in Lagos, Nigeria, as part of a weeklong event leading up to the 2026 AMVCA. The forum aimed to engage Nigeria's emerging talent by providing a platform to examine career paths in the evolving film industry, particularly focusing on the theme of storytelling and the opportunities presented by AI.

Oyetola Akeredolu, representing Johnnie Walker, addressed participants, emphasizing that AI should not be viewed as a threat to jobs but as a tool to enhance creativity and streamline processes. The event included a panel featuring established actors and directors, including Uch Jombo and Stan Nze, who discussed the importance of maintaining a professional online presence for aspiring actors.

Jombo highlighted the necessity of visibility and continuous work in the industry, while Abiodun Odu examined the role of AI in filmmaking, arguing for collaboration rather than replacement of human creativity.
