Anambra Government Challenges Peter Obi's Debt Claims

The Anambra State government has intensified its dispute with Peter Obi, the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, by releasing a video that allegedly shows Water Corporation workers protesting over unpaid debts from Obi's time as governor. The video was posted on Anambra State New Media's verified X (formerly Twitter) page on September 18.

This action follows comments made by the state's Commissioner for Finance, Izuchukwu Okafor, who stated that Governor Charles Soludo's administration is still addressing loans and debts inherited from Obi and other former governors. In response, Obi claimed he left office in 2014 without any financial obligations and asserted he had saved over N75 billion in a specific account.

He challenged the Soludo administration to provide evidence of any unpaid debts linked to him, promising to abandon his campaign if they could. The state government countered by publishing the video, asserting that the debts shown have persisted beyond Obi's tenure and remain unresolved.
