Anambra govt tells voters to reject Peter Obi in 2027 race

Governor Soludo's administration publicly calls on citizens to resist the NDC presidential candidate, accusing him of damaging APGA.

Voters have been instructed by Anambra State Government to reject Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, when they go to the polls in 2027. Through its official social media channels on Monday, the administration—managed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo's New Media office—conveyed this message.

Framing Obi as detrimental to the All Progressives Grand Alliance, officials pointed to his former tenure as governor of Anambra under that same party before his departure. Obi's efforts to weaken APGA stretch back to 2014, the government contended, citing his backing of opposing political movements throughout the state.

President Bola Tinubu, by contrast, has provided support to the party, according to officials. They labeled such conduct betrayal and urged APGA adherents to safeguard their organization from what they termed a systematic destruction effort.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress dismissed these assertions outright. Through its Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, the party contested the state government's depiction of its candidate.

Anxiety about rising support for Obi across Anambra and elsewhere drove the administration's position, the NDC suggested. The party expressed confidence it would achieve a major victory in the state during the 2027 presidential contest and characterized the government's statements as baseless.

This dispute reflects deepening tension between Soludo's administration and the opposition ahead of the presidential race. Having assumed office in 2022 as an APGA candidate, Soludo has since aligned his governance closely with Tinubu's federal initiatives.

The public character of these governmental pronouncements reveals how pivotal the 2027 race has grown for political strategy at state level across Nigeria's southeastern region.
