Army Clarifies Circumstances of Soldier's Death in Katsina

The 17 Brigade Nigerian Army issued a statement addressing the death of Corporal UD Jude, who was identified as a member of the 67 Regular Recruit Intake enlisted in 2012 from Ezeagu Local Government Area, Enugu State. The statement, made by Captain Abayomi Adisa, refuted viral media reports suggesting the soldier's death was due to neglect or sabotage. It clarified that Corporal Jude sustained injuries outside the barracks during a physical altercation with a civilian on February 16, 2026. After the incident, he received first aid and was evacuated to the 17 Brigade Medical Centre, where he was treated for stab-related injuries and trauma. Despite medical attention, he later collapsed outside his residence and was confirmed dead upon arrival at the medical centre. The Army emphasized that all necessary arrangements were made for his burial and support for his family, countering claims of abandonment.
