Nigerian Army Expands with Four New Divisions

The Nigerian Army has initiated the operationalization of four newly created divisions as part of a restructuring plan aimed at enhancing its operational capacity and combating insecurity nationwide. This expansion, approved by President Bola Tinubu, increases the Army's divisions from eight to twelve, with new headquarters set to be established in Benue, Kwara, Taraba, and Edo states.

The restructuring aims to decentralize command, improve tactical response times, and enable more effective troop deployment against security threats, particularly in the North-Central and North-East zones. The Army plans to recruit 28,000 additional personnel and improve logistics and welfare for troops.

In Kwara State, a new battalion is being deployed to Omu-Aran, with another planned for Patigi, in response to rising security concerns including banditry and kidnapping. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq welcomed the troops and expressed confidence that this deployment would enhance security operations in the state.
