The match saw David Raya, Arsenal's goalkeeper, make a full-stretch save to deny Julián Álvarez, who initially found the net.

Arsenal took the lead just before half-time when Viktor Gyökeres converted a penalty awarded for a foul. However, Atlético Madrid quickly equalized after the restart when Álvarez expertly buried a penalty following a handball by Ben White.

In the closing minutes, Antoine Griezmann nearly gave Atlético the lead with a shot that hit the underside of the bar. Raya enjoyed a magnificent night in goal, but Arsenal faced a controversial penalty decision that was taken away after a VAR review in the final two minutes.
