Nigerian Art Installation Raises Awareness on Missing Persons Crisis

The art installation by visual artist Ashel Israel at the Ecobank Pan African Center in Lagos addresses Nigeria's rising missing persons crisis, with over 24,000 reported cases in the last ten years. The installation, part of the Lagos Pop Museum project, recreates a typical Lagos bus stop environment, featuring missing person posters and everyday items.

Israel's aim is to awaken public consciousness and urgency towards the issue, emphasizing the importance of empathy and community support. The project, a collaboration with the Nigerian Red Cross Society, seeks to document missing person cases across Nigeria.

Dr. Odun Orimolade, the curator of Yaba Art Museum, praises the installation's power in engaging visitors and raising awareness on social justice issues.

The Lagos Pop Museum exhibit, running until February 10, aims to fund scholarships through the sale and adoption of artworks, with over 200 adoptions already made.
