INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu Steps Down Pending Successor's Appointment

Immediate past Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, has stepped down pending the appointment of a substantive chairman by the President. Yakubu officially announced his decision during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.

He had been serving in an acting capacity since May. Yakubu's tenure was marked by advancements in the electoral process, although challenges like technical glitches during the Result Viewing IRev portal for the 2023 presidential election were faced.

Despite this, Yakubu showed leadership by addressing issues promptly. His departure signifies a transition period for INEC as they await the appointment of a new chairman.
