Enugu Hotel Owners Challenge Illegal Sealing Over Tax Dispute

The Enugu State Internal Revenue Service is accused of unlawfully sealing over 50 hotels, sparking condemnation from hotel owners in Enugu State. Barr Chijok Ezeh has filed a suit at the Federal High Court Enugu seeking to interpret relevant tax laws, particularly regarding value-added tax (VAT) and purchase tax.

The hotel owners claim they are facing double taxation, with the state government also demanding payment of purchase tax. The legal battle aims to clarify the tax obligations and jurisdiction between the state and federal revenue services.
