Nigerian Health Association Opposes Creation of New Commissions Amid Funding Concerns

The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) is urging the National Assembly to halt the creation of new health commissions proposed in an amendment to the National Health Act. The ACPN argues that the proposed commissions, including surrogacy commissions for tertiary health institutions and sickle cell disease, would lead to unnecessary duplication.

They highlight the existing regulatory structures in place and the underfunding of key research institutes like the Nigeria Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) and Nigeria Institute of Medical Research (NIMR). The ACPN recommends establishing a centralized sickle cell research institute to support federal health institutions and advance research without straining limited funds.
