Atiku Abubakar and Kwankwaso Meet in Abuja Ahead of 2027

On Friday, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar met with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso at the Maitama residence in Abuja shortly after Jumu'ah prayers. The meeting, confirmed by Kwankwaso's media aide Saifullahi Hassan, involved private discussions and exchanges of pleasantries, although specific details were not disclosed.

This meeting occurs at a time when opposition figures are exploring strategies for the upcoming 2027 general elections. Atiku Abubakar has previously dismissed the notion that Kwankwaso could eclipse his political influence in Northern Nigeria.

In a recent interview with Arise TV, Atiku maintained that he remains a dominant figure in the region, citing his long-standing political network and influence. He asserted that while Kwankwaso is popular, his support is largely confined to Kano State and that no emerging leader in the region currently matches his political reach or voter base.
