PFN Backs Catholic Bishops Against Attacks on Comments

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has expressed its support for the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), asserting that any attack on Catholic bishops for their comments on national issues constitutes an attack on the entire Christian community. PFN National President, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, made this statement during a ministry event at his Sword of the Spirit Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Sunday.

He endorsed remarks made by Cardinal John Onaiyekan, who highlighted Nigeria's severe insecurity during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, stating that “Nigeria is bleeding.” Oke pointed out that insecurity is prevalent in various regions, including Benue, Southern Kaduna, Borno, Kwara, and Oyo. He emphasized that religious leaders have a duty to speak out on issues affecting citizens' safety and welfare.

Additionally, Oke criticized proposed fines for preaching in buses, urging lawmakers to focus on more pressing issues rather than restricting religious expression. The PFN's stance comes amid ongoing debates regarding the CBCN's comments and the government's response.
