Australia Offers Permanent Residency for Talented Foreigners

Australia is introducing the Subclass 858 National Innovation visa, which grants permanent residency to exceptionally talented foreigners. The Department of Home Affairs confirmed that eligible applicants can live and work in Australia indefinitely.

To qualify, individuals must demonstrate extraordinary achievement in one of four fields: a profession, the arts, academia, or research. Additionally, applicants must secure a nominator with a national reputation in their relevant field, who can be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, eligible New Zealand citizen, or an Australian organization.

Applicants cannot approach the Department directly; they must first submit an Expression of Interest and await an invitation to apply. Once invited, they have 60 days to submit their application.

Visa holders enjoy various rights, including unrestricted work and study, access to Medicare, and the ability to sponsor relatives. They may also apply for Australian citizenship in the future.

Newly arrived residents may need to wait before accessing certain government payments and benefits.
