Australia Issues 248 National Innovation Visa Invitations

Between April and June 2026, Australia's Department of Home Affairs extended 248 invitations for the National Innovation Visa (NIV), aimed at attracting highly talented individuals with exceptional work in their fields. This selection was based on 2,166 expressions of interest (EOIs) submitted during the same period.

The NIV is a permanent residency visa, and invitations are issued monthly, ranked by priority level. The breakdown of invitations shows that fewer than 5 went to Priority One candidates, who are global experts with top-level awards, while fewer than 20 were awarded to Priority Two candidates nominated by expert agencies.

The majority, 192 invitations, were issued to Priority Three candidates with outstanding achievements in Tier One sectors. The NIV program targets innovators, researchers, and high-achieving professionals, emphasizing that receiving an invitation does not guarantee visa approval, as each application undergoes a full assessment process.
