The Presidency has called for calm among Nigerians following the detection of an imported Ebola case in the country. Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President and Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Ebola Preparedness, stated that the Federal Government has activated measures to contain the virus.
This assurance came after an emergency meeting of the task force at the State House. Gbajabiamila noted that the task force has been operational since June 2026, and surveillance measures have been effective in identifying the index case.
He mentioned that approximately 44,000 flights have operated into and out of Nigeria since the Ebola preparedness efforts began. Gbajabiamila emphasized the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Health and other agencies in strengthening the country’s response capacity.
Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Mohammed Ali Pate, confirmed that contact tracing and isolation of individuals linked to the index case are ongoing, with support from various government and health organizations.
