This decision comes as the organization reassesses data from the ongoing World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

The analysis examines the timeframe starting from 1995, when the award was no longer restricted to European players. Notable figures such as Bobby Charlton, Paolo Rossi, Lothar Matthäus, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, and Fabio Cannavaro have previously achieved World Cup success alongside the Ballon d'Or.

The trend of World Cup winners also winning the Ballon d'Or was interrupted in 2010 despite Spain's triumph, as Lionel Messi outshone his teammates. In 2014, Manuel Neuer was a finalist, and Luka Modric won the award in 2018 despite losing the final.

The pattern reemerged in Qatar when Messi added a World Cup victory to his accolades, and France Football discovered that four out of seven World Cup champions since 1995 secured the Ballon d'Or, resulting in a 57% success rate.
