Folarin Balogun, a 25-year-old forward born in New York to Nigerian parents and raised in England, made headlines by scoring two goals in the United States' 4-1 demolition of Paraguay, becoming the first American player to score twice in a World Cup match. This performance followed a 2-0 victory over Australia, which secured the U.S. a place in the knockout stage as Group D winners.
