Bauchi CJ frees suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, others held for years without trial

Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, has raised concerns over delayed justice delivery, leading to inmates being held for years without trial. During a quarterly review at the Bauchi Custodial Centre, Justice Umar highlighted cases where prosecutors failed to appear, hindering proper case reviews.

As a result, three inmates who had spent four to six years in custody without trial were ordered to be released. Justice Umar emphasized the violation of fundamental rights when case files are not properly reviewed, leading to indefinite detention.

She urged prosecutors to complete investigations promptly to avoid justice being denied due to negligence. The freed inmates were advised to live responsibly and contribute positively to society.

The Bauchi State Controller of Correctional Centres praised Justice Umar's dedication to ensuring fairer justice delivery in the state.
