Bennett and Lapid Unite for 2026 Election Against Netanyahu

Naftali Bennett, an Orthodox Jew and former tech entrepreneur, and Yair Lapid, a secular centrist and former journalist, have announced the merger of their political factions to form a single ticket for the 2026 elections in Israel. This strategic move is designed to consolidate the anti-Netanyahu vote, which has been scattered across numerous smaller parties since the coalition's collapse in late 2022.

Despite their fundamentally different visions for Israel's future—Bennett's hardline stance on Palestinian statehood and Lapid's focus on social reform and diplomatic solutions—the two leaders have maintained a close working relationship during their previous alliance from 2021 to 2022. The merger aims to end internal divisions within the opposition as Israel faces unprecedented national tensions, including military actions against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

The current administration, led by Netanyahu, has dismissed the merger as a convenient political arrangement.
