Jacob Bethell Out of The Hundred Due to Knee Injury

England all-rounder Jacob Bethell has been ruled out of The Hundred due to a knee injury he sustained during the recent one-day international series against India. Bethell, who is 22 years old, had been named captain of Birmingham Phoenix for the season.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that he underwent an MRI scan on Monday, but they have not provided a timeline for his return. This injury is particularly disappointing for Bethell, as he is seen as a potential future leader for England, having previously captained the team in a T20 series against Ireland last year.

He demonstrated strong form in the series decider at Lord's, scoring 91 runs and taking 1-49. Bethell will be replaced by South Africa’s Donovan Ferreira as the Phoenix skipper.

Ferreira is a two-time Hundred champion with the Oval Invincibles. Birmingham Phoenix's opening match is scheduled against Trent Rockets at Edgbaston on Friday at 18:30 BST.

Bethell, who plays county cricket for Warwickshire, was retained by Phoenix earlier this year with a contract worth £340,000.
