NAFDAC Warns Nigerians About Counterfeit HIV Test Kits

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted the public regarding counterfeit HIV test kits, particularly the Visitect CD4 Advanced Disease Test Kit, which is being sold through unauthorized channels in Nigeria. This warning was issued on Wednesday via a public alert titled "Public Alert No. 011 2026." NAFDAC confirmed that the genuine product is manufactured by Accubio Ltd in Scotland and is registered under NAFDAC number A3 100 153.

In contrast, the counterfeit version is produced by Omega Diagnostics Ltd and lacks any NAFDAC registration number. The genuine kit has a lot number of 0002172, a manufacturing date of July 30, 2025, and an expiration date of November 30, 2026.

The counterfeit version bears a lot number of 0001586, a manufacturing date of August 2024, and an expiration date of January 2027. NAFDAC emphasized that counterfeit products pose significant public health risks and instructed zonal directors to remove these unregistered products from the market.

The agency encourages vigilance throughout the supply chain and advises reporting any adverse events via their platforms.
