BHCPF Sees 1.3 Million Enrolment Surge in Q3

Mohammad Safana, the Chairman of the Forum of Chief Executives of State Social Health Insurance Agencies of Nigeria and Director-General of the Katsina State Health Insurance Agency, announced a 1.3 million increase in enrolment in the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) during the third quarter. This increase follows a previous decline attributed to a directive from the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) that mandated beneficiaries to provide valid National Identification Number (NIN) details to maintain their enrolment.
The initial policy led to the removal of beneficiaries lacking valid identification and required others to update their information. Safana noted that approximately 1.7 million enrollees were recorded in the second quarter, indicating a recovery in enrolment figures after the initial decline.
The meeting, which included representatives from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, aimed to enhance health insurance delivery and support Nigeria's progress towards universal health coverage.
