BRACED Commission Aims to Transform South-South Economy

The BRACED Commission is focused on repositioning the South-South region of Nigeria as Africa's industrial hub through the promotion of a blue economy and diversification from a resource-dependent model. During a symposium held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the commission issued a communiqué outlining its commitment to transforming the region's economy by enhancing manufacturing and agricultural practices.

Ambassador Joe Keshi, the Director General of the BRACED Commission, highlighted the need for a collaborative approach among member states—Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo, and Delta—to attract the right investments. The communiqué acknowledged challenges such as infrastructure deficits and an unwelcoming business environment but emphasized the potential for economic growth through strategic investments.

Mr. Patience Abah, Director General of the Bayelsa State Investment Promotion Agency, presented on closing value gaps to harness the region's resources effectively.

The symposium concluded with a call for cooperation among state governments, investors, and civil society to realize the South-South region's economic potential.
