NIWA Launches Safety Campaign in Niger State After Boat Mishap

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has initiated a safety campaign in Niger State, particularly at Zumba Waterfront in Shiroro Local Government Area. The campaign, led by NIWA Area Manager Mr.

Akapo Adeboy, aims to raise awareness and enforce waterway safety regulations, focusing on the compulsory use of life jackets. This initiative follows a recent boat mishap at Zumba Waterfront that resulted in the death of 10 passengers who were not wearing life jackets when the boat capsized.

Abdullahi Alhaji Ango, an operator at the waterfront, emphasized the importance of adhering to safety rules, including avoiding overloading, refraining from night travel, and mandatory use of life jackets to prevent boat accidents.
